The Astertog Effect is the process by which excesss fonk material fonkifies its surrounding elementary particles above normal levels.
At every moment, each dimension within the Astral Plane is bombarded with fonky waves, particles, and other forces. This process occurs in all dimensions, with each lower dimension being bombarded less fonk material by a factor of 5.48x10-23. For various reasons, excess funk material can cause this filtration of energy to be more than what is normally intercepted by the adjacent dimension, causing higher levels of funkification. This manifests itself in many ways, such as an increased funk music output, four-on-the-floor grooves appearing in seemingly implausible areas, and slap bass line transcriptions being found within an ecosystem's total genome. In severe cases, the Fibonacci sequence is replaced by Funkonacci Sequence.
In third and fourth dimensional lifeforms, excess fonk intake can lead to drowsiness, irritability, headaches, migraines, instant death, spontaneous combustion, entrance into reverb hell, kIlLiNg oF tHe vIbE mAn, and a birth of the M O J O. In large quantities, excess fonk can lead to blindness, a decreased immune system function, an amplified risk of spiritual possession, an unhealthy appreciation of nu-metal, color blindness, synestesia activation, and hearing F Ö N K.
The Astertog Effect has been a prime contributor of Astral Climate Change. Its role has been well documented. Unless an entity can acquire rare, expensive, and highly radioactive cheese hat, there exists no protection from this effect. This is a source widespread controversy across the Astral Plane. Some believe that fonkification is ultimately inconsequential to the Astral Plane in the long run, citing how many ecosystems have adapted to the rising levels by making funk music. Other believe that fonkification overload is and will always be a hindrance to the Astral Plane if it isn't dealt with. This can be seen through the existence of Country Music (a phenomenon that's proven to be a direct result of fonkification).
